From 2011 until 2017, the GMSHI had a Museum at 219 East Main Street in downtown Gibsonville. This Museum hosted regional related historical artifacts as well as revolving exhibits. As of August 2017, the Museum closed due to necessary building repairs. By 2022, this location is closed due to tenancy complications and the GMHSI is in search of another museum location.
In lieu of having a physical venue, the GMHSI:
- Will be a resource for your historic and genealogical inquiries. We have collected information and historic artifacts since 2009. There is a tremendous amount of historical documentation available upon request.
- Will focus on improving this website, production of videos, and other modern methods of information sharing. Please note the ever expanding content at Press & Publications and Detailed Histories.
- Continues in its educational role by going to the community. This started with the traveling Mrs Gibson exhibit and continues to date. Should you have interest in this service or a venue we can present at, please reach out to us.
- Will actively pursue another permanent museum location. This is funded by many different GMHSI efforts. These include annual membership, sale of retail items (calendars, postcards, ornaments), an annual car show, sponsorships, contributions through Amazon Smile, bequests, or in any other way our community sees fit to contribute.
Please note we will still gladly take physical donations.
As is our purpose, we will diligently promote public knowledge of local, state, and national history (with an emphasis on the history of Gibsonville).
